Awash
14" x 12.5" x 3"
In Awash, corrosion becomes creation. A solvent-drenched gear stains handmade paper, producing a haloed bloom at the heart of this layered assemblage. Mechanisms spill across pages of forgotten text, orbiting the balance between control and entropy. A haunting meditation on time, breakdown, and the beauty that emerges in the letting go.

Awash explores dissolution, emergence, and the alchemy of time. At its center, a distressed gear acts as both subject and catalyst—its metal form exposed to solvent that bleeds outward, creating a blossoming stain on the textured paper surface. The diamond orientation of this top panel feels like a compass or warning symbol, slightly ajar from the rectangular backing layered with gears, book pages, and ephemera. The piece reads like a celestial schematic coming undone—where once precise mechanisms dissolve into floral ghosts, rusted halos, and layered secrets.
